Using landscaping as buffers in Sarasota is a very useful tool for reducing noise, and giving privacy. In Sarasota’s best landscapes buffers are used not only for the reasons above but also to define property lines and maintain boundaries. Many shrubs such as Viburnum, Eliagnis, Natal Plum, make very good hedges that dont need much care once established. Using landscaping for buffers is far better and more cost effective than fencing which in time usually declines in look, such as chain link or panel fencing, even the new Vinyl fencing become old in appearance, warp in the sun, and so on. With landscaping all this is eliminated, and with proper care it will add value to your property. For more information on buffers visit our web site at www.stateoftheartlandscaping.com

Caring for lawns in Venice is a constant practice. As our weather goes through cycles so does our landscape, and turf. Here are some tips that may help you achieve a healthier lawn. Keep your mower blades sharp, this keeps the blade of the grass from tearing which promotes desease and insects, mow at the proper hieght, cutting your turf too short will expose it to the south West Floridas hot sun, during peak growth periods mow two times per week or no less than every seven. St. Augustine grass in Venice is very difficult to care for and takes alot of fertilizer along with water, however by practicing good landscape mangement, you can keep a nice lawn using much less water, fertilizer and pesticide than your neighbor, who may have a green yard but is spending much more money and using much more water than a lawn that gets proper care. Remember never remove more than athird of the blade of grass when mowing. Taller grass may not look as manicured but is much stronger and will handlw stress such as drought much easier than grass that is cut too short. Here in Sarasota proper irrigaion mangement is essential to the health of your landscape and turf, and our precious water resourses which give us the oustanding quality of life we have here in South West Florida. irrigation management is simply knowing when and how much to irrigate. It encompasses both the amount of water applied and the frequency of applications. to achieve maximum effeciency scheduling should take into account turf and plant water requirements, recent rainfall, recent temperature extremes, and soil moisture. Sarasota irrigation systems should only be run one time per week and only if plants are requiring watering. Just because you have a automatic irrigation system does not mean you should run it every week. so mauch of our water is wasted, and I always hear its a well, it doesnt matter what your water source is it all comes from our dwindling supply. So if you own an irrigation system or are thinking of purhcasing one make sure you undrstand the importance of proper planning of not only the system but the landscape it will be providing water for.

Fertilizing in Sarasota County has changed, our commisioners and public leaders finally relized the damge that fertilizers have done to our water ways. Before hiring someone to fertilize your landscaping or turf try to do a little home work of your own. First of all here are the primary nutrients in fertilizers. (Nitrogen,) this promotes blade leaf and stem growth, Promotes dark green color, and is used in larger amounts than any other element. (Phosphorus,) stimulates early root development and growth when sodding or seeding, hastends plant development, encourages fruit and flower production, (Potassium,) influences rooting and wear tolerance, used by the plant in large quanities. (Magnesium) Plays a role in photosynthesis and chlorophyll production. (Sulfer) Works with nitrogen to produce new protien for the plant growth. (Iron) Required for the formation of chlorophyll. Here at Stae Of The Art we promote natural fertilizers such as composting yard waste, such as leaves and grass clippings, this actually works better than man made fertilizer. Also in stalling an EZ flow fertigater to your sprinkler system is very cost effective and has no enviromental impact on our water ways.
