Some years ago it was not that difficult to take care of your lawn in Venice, that was before the discovery of St. Augustine grass, and professional landscape design and install. The nieghborhood lawn boy just doesnt work anymore. After installing or purchasing a home with significant landscaping, protecting your investment takes a professional that has experience with turf and plants in Venice. Here are a few tips on making lawncare in Venice more enjoyable, and rewarding. 1. make sure you have the proper equipment, some mowerers do not adjust high enough for St. Augustine grass, let the turf grow afull 7″ and then remove one third of blade this will bring you to a four ing to 4.5″ cut. inspect a few blades of grass after cutting, if they look torn sharpen blades. Dull blades damage grass and promote desease. 2. Make sure your irrigation system is running properly that the design is covering all areas of turf and landscape. Do not over water, an inch of irrigation one time per week is suffecient. 3. Have a good fertilization program, check with your local extension service for proper rate of applications. Planting shade trees will help in all aspects of your landscape maintenance. For more tips visit www.stateoftheartlandscaping.com
Here we are locked in a significant drought, it seems to get worse every year, we have altered our environment by cutting down too many trees and putting too much pollutants into the air. Now we have to wake up and try to slow and possibly reverse the negative impact we have created. Native landscaping in Venice using shade trees such as Live Oaks, Gumbo Limbo, and other shade giving trees is a good way to start. Also we need to start removing St. Augustine Grass and other water thirsty turf in Venice. By using Florida Native Plants we add beauty, require less maintenance, use less chemical pesticides, use far less water, and no demand for expensive water polluting fertilizers. For more information on how to turn your polluting lawn into a natural landscape, visit www.stateoftheartlandscaping.com, and contact your local extension service. www.watermatters.org
Our water resources here in Venice Florida are being compromised, mostly from poor irrigation, and landscape design, along with too much fertilizer. Study after study show human development and activity with poor mangement has brought beautiful bodies of water like the Chesapeake Bay to its knees. Storm water run off bringing too much Nitrogen and Phosphate into the water has created dead zones. We are doing the same thing here as the developers have done all over the united States, creating too many hard surfaces, along with too much fertilizer. Landscape design in Venice should be water quality friendly, designing Florida friendly landscapes is very important to not only water quality, it also keeps our fish, birds and other wildlife in a healthy environment. Venice landscape design should be extremely water efficient, using micro irrigation for all plant beds and well designed spray heads for turf, grass that requires weekly watering should be kept to a minimum or not installed at all, turf in Venice takes way to much water, along with costant fertilizer feedings. Our water ways can not take any more nitrogen than they get naturaly. there are many books that give very good information on landscape design for Florida one of my favorites is Your Florida Friendly Landscape by Robert Black and Kathleen Ruppert. This is acomplete guide to designing a water effeecient landscape that will not compromise our water ways. Please landscape responsibly

Just got back from the lower Florida Keys, saw some really well done landscapes, most interesting of all was its all done on very low water volume, hardly any turf to speak of, when we got off the interstate here in Venice, we were shocked by all the green grass, even though we live here and had only been gone two weeks the difference was very obvious the different landscape practices. Lawn care in Venice is alot of irrigation and fertilizing of grass, as opposed to alot of Florida Native landscaping with less water and low fertilization. Turf in Venice takes far too much of our water resources, and too much fertilizer. Here is a way to turn your Venice landscape into a Florida Friendly Yard. Remove as much turf as possible, plant shade trees such as Pitch Apple, Oak, even Coconut trees give a wonderful filtered shade which cuts down on water consumption, plant drought tolerant plants. Keep your plant beds mulched, Contact your local extension service for more information or contact us at www.stateoftheartlandscaping.com
Venice FL landscaping can vary from a simple row of hedges around the the house and a tree in the front yard, to a complex ecological system involving a variety of colors and textures encompassing the entire property.
Whether your landscape desires are modest or more ambitious, certain factors are critical to the success of your plans.
1. Venice and Sarasota have very sandy soil which leads to poor water retention and cation exchange capacities (CEC). Always add soil amendments when planting.
2. The cute little shrub you bought at the nursey may in five years become much larger than you envisioned. Always be aware of the growth habit and estimated size at maturity of any plants you postion near your home, driveway or hardscapes.
3. Newly planted trees and shrubs need to stay moist for the first month or two while they are establishing a root system in their new location. After establishment most trees and shrubs require little, if any, supplemental watering.
If you are unsure as to which types and varietes of plants would best suit your needs, contact a Venice FL landscapers for advice.

Sarasota landscape design can be a marvelous sight to behold.
And if designed poorly can be a nightmare for years to come.
The major flaw that I often notice is a lack of usability and vision for future growth. We have all seen the stereotypical “we put the small hedges next to the driveway and now we have to cut a hole through them to get the car in the garage” mistake. However, correct landscape design in Sarasota goes far beyond the obvious “right plant, right place” mantra.
A natural flow, avoiding the “this place has been landscaped” look is what we all yearn for. We want a beautiful tropical ambience that does not look contrived. We want our landscapes to appear as if Eden has sprung up around us unaided by man. The truly “natural look” that takes many years of experience to design.
This is why you need a landscape plan. Without a plan that ties in all the different textures and colors into a seamless whole, it is likely that you will end up with an “uncontrolled jumble” and not the “controlled jungle” that you envisioned.
Another reason to insist on a professionally prepared landscape design Sarasota is cost containment. Rather than have “Joe-Bob’s Git-Er-Done Landscaping and Car Haulin’” service walk around and put boot marks in the dirt where he feels a tree should go, a true landscape plan affords you the option of empirically reviewing your project and making changes when you feel they are necessary.
Whether your budget is $50,000 or $5000, you will never lose by investing a small fraction of the landscape installation cost in a well designed plan.

With so many people losing there job, it seeems more and more people are going into lawn care. Be careful when you hire someone new to the business. Most lawns in Venice require specialized care, with years of knowledge in the landscape industry, its best to hire someone who can take care of your trees, irrigation, fertilization, turf, and pest control all in one service. Irrigation service in Venice is not easy to find qualified technicians, I see all the time the turf in Venice cut way too short, this leads to more water, fertilizer and pesticides, which Sarasota county is trying to educate the public on how to keep your Venice landscape and turf healthy without so much of what ruins our environment, fertilizer. The drought has hit Tampa hard,4 million of Tampas 8 million gallons of drinkable water is used for lawn irrigation every day. You would have thought that man kind would know better, especiaclly when more than half of the 4 million gallons is used with poor efficiency. Just today riding through I saw many Venice irrigation systems running that needed no water. With the rain we got this last weekend the turf and shrubs were fine. Prevent what has happened to Tampa and conserve water in Sarasota. If at all possible talk to neighborhood associations about getting rid of so much water thirsty turf in Sarsota and replace with Sarasota Native Plants that need watering from sprinklers only in times of drought, drought tolerant plants and trees dont even need water in Winter because they are dormant and not in feeding mode, so much simple information that could save millions of gallons of water in Sarasota .
