Well June is off to a big bang as far as rain goes here in Saraota. We have had significant amounts which was very benifecial to our turf and landscape. With this rain fall and high humidity, Turf in South West Florida is prone to get fungus, fungus can be very harful to St. Augustine grass especially. Fungus can be adentified by visual inspection, its usally a brown to black longated spot on the blade of the grass, this is caused from the turf being wet for too many hours with out drying out, make certain your irrigation has a properly operating rain sensor, or just turn your system off. one good rain fall per week is enoygh to sustain your turf, also over watering causes shallow root growth so when we go through drought the lawns that first start to fail are the ones with out proper management practices.
